The city is currently going through a multi-billion pound regeneration programme, which has seen it recognised as the seventh fastest growing economy in the UK.

In addition, The University of Wales at Newport is expanding with a new £35million campus. Built on the banks of the River Usk, it opened its doors for the first time on 10th January 2011.
